I recently picked up a Sony Alpha a7, which is my first venture into the mirrorless realm and I’m pretty impressed with this little camera so far.
You might be wondering why I grabbed the a7 when the a7 II is now available. Pretty simple; after reading many reviews of the a7 II it became clear that the over $500 premium to have the latest tech didn’t net that much more in the way of performance.
Truthfully, a 24 megapixel full-frame mirrorless rig is enticing. I like the way this camera feels in my hands. It is compact, light, yet feels sturdy and powerful and mated with the highly-regarded Zeiss FE-mount 55mm f/1.8, this camera is strong. Real strong.
This isn’t a full-tilt review, but I did want to share an image taken from my first time out with this set-up. Pretty happy with the results…
Am I going to give up my Nikon D3s and go completely mirrorless for action photography? Not a chance, but I love portability and I’ll be packing this setup in my bag from now on.
